The Art of Cosmetology: The twenty-first century holds promise and unlimited opportunities for future cosmetologists. This is an ever-expanding, ever-changing, ever-fantastic industry. In this week, we will talk about the many subjects that are involved in cosmetology; from electricity to salon business to hair cutting to the study of nails. You will learn what this business is about and how you can achieve your goals of being a stylist here at Stafford, how you can have fun, and be ready for a profession by the time you graduate. We will have some basic hands-on fun and play some fun cosmetology games.

Digital Photography: Learn how to create amazing photographs! In this hands-on workshop you will shoot, edit, manipulate and print your own photographs. Using digital cameras and Adobe Photoshop you’ll learn how to create photographs that look professional. At the end of the week we will have an opening where you can share your work.

The Incredible Spectacular Amazing Race: Join us for the Incredible Rutland Community Race where teams compete against each other on a trek around our local community. At every destination, each team must compete in a series of physical and mental challenges, all involving local businesses and partnerships. Only when the tasks are done will the teams learn of their next location. In each leg of the journey, clues are either provided to the next destination or to direct them to perform a tasks. All challenges include our community and the local culture. The team that arrives first in the final leg is awarded the GRAND PRIZE!!!

Party Foods: Spend a week preparing for a catered event with Stafford Chef Instructor Lisa Fennimore. You will learn to prepare a variety of seasonal and fun dishes including yeast breads, dips, pastry, pizza, and a wide variety of hors d’ouvres, all of which will be served to friends and family during the end of camp celebration on Friday. Campers will work in our professional kitchen and learn a wide range of techniques to make tasty treats. You will also venture off campus to visit the home of the most popular party food company in Vermont, the Ben and Jerry’s Factory. Campers will be expected to be active participants in food prep as well as clean up; closed toe shoes are a must.

Radical Robotics: Robots are everywhere! They vacuum our floors; they assemble our automobiles; they perform surgery and in some places, they are even being used to cook our food. All robots consist of three basic systems: a micro-processor (the brain), a communication system (the electronics) and a mechanical system (the body). Radical Robotics will allow students to experiment with all three systems as they design and build original robots using “state of the art” equipment. We will be working from a national robotics curriculums: VEX Robotics and programming using Robot C and EasyC. Participants in this class will learn first-hand, what it’s like to be on a competitive robotics team. At the conclusion of the week, student teams will compete as alliances and competitors on an “official” FIRST FTC and VEX Robotics Challenge playing field.
