This course provides an introduction to reading and interpreting machine shop symbols, welding blueprints and working drawings used in trades and crafts. This course will focus on dimension, shape, fabrication, and assembly. Students will apply basic mathematics to the solution of print and performance problems, so students will also understand fractions and use basic mathematics to add, subtract, multiply, and divide measurements. Upon completion of this course the student will be able to interpret working drawings including dimensions, notes, symbols, sections, and auxiliary views; and sketch pictorials and multi-view drawings related to the performance objectives. Students will demonstrate the ability to create free-hand sketches of multi-view drawings, details, residential and commercial floor plans, and isometrics as well as being able to read architectural scale. And finally, students will be able to identify symbols related to residential construction, machine drawings, and weldments, and also utilize free-hand lettering techniques to add notes, dimensions, and other text to sketches. This course would create an excellent foundation for students wishing to become employed in the manufacturing or construction trades.
