Community Connection

Stafford Technical Center in offering youngsters the opportunity to build on the beginning skills they are learning in their technical programs. Business offices in downtown such as those in the Service Building employ students in office positions.

Rutland is a busy commercial center for the Central Region of Vermont. Students have the opportunity for employment in financial institutions such as The First Vermont Bank on the corner of Merchants Row and Evelyn Street.

Automotive and Power Mechanics students are able to experience the supply side of the industry by participating in work programs at shops such as A & J Auto Parts on West Street & in downtown Rutland. This experience supplements their school program for Automotive Technology, Auto Collision & Refinishing and Power Mechanics.

Small to medium size manufacturing operations look to the Stafford Technical Center to provide them with trained and motivated youngsters to fill entry level jobs. Here a Manufacturing Technology student is employed at Interstate Manufacturing Company at Howe Center.

Helping You Get the Most Out Of Stafford

Students at Stafford Technical Center are fortunate to have two guidance counselors looking out for them. In the Guidance office, students can receive assistance with academic, social, and emotional issues as well as receive assistance with career and college planning.

The Guidance Coordinator is also responsible for new student applications, visits to the center, registration, and scheduling. Students may make appointments through their guidance office.

Please contact the Guidance Coordinator via e-mail or phone with any questions or concerns regarding scheduling classes and/or applying to Stafford Technical Center.

In addition, the Guidance Coordinator also collaborates with each student’s sending school Guidance Counselor to ensure that the student’s needs are met. The Guidance Counselor at the sending high school remains the student’s primary guidance counselor. The Guidance Coordinator also visits Rutland County high schools on a monthly basis. During these visits interested students may meet with the Guidance Coordinator to discuss programs and opportunities available to them at Stafford Technical Center.

About Stafford Technical Center

Stafford Technical Center is located in Rutland, Vermont. We provide technical education to area high school students and adults. Students from high schools in Rutland County (Rutland, Fair Haven, Otter Valley, Proctor, Poultney, West Rutland, Mill River, and MSJ) may choose from seventeen different full day programs. Many of these technical programs have articulated agreements, transcripted credit and dual enrollment options with Vermont State Colleges, which allow students to earn college credits while at the technical center. All daytime programs are available to adults in Rutland County without a diploma. These full day programs are also available to adults with diplomas on a space available basis. Most typically, adults choose to enroll in our adult evening classes for continuing education. Recently, Stafford Technical Center has partnered with Vermont Technical College in providing adult classes.

Stafford Technical Center has been providing technical education since 1974. Over the past ten years, many things have changed in technical education and the programs that Stafford Technical Center provides. Our students come from a wide variety of backgrounds, with personal goals ranging from college, immediate workplace, or apprenticeship. Please check out all of our exciting and new changes through this web site or a visit to the center.
