Summer Full Week Theme Camps

Theme camps allow students to focus on a particular area of interest. As part of a theme camp you will spend a week immersed in the study, practice and exploration of your chosen topic. During this time you will work with a highly trained instructor and have access to cutting edge technology. Camp offerings change each year and have limited space. Theme camps are open to current 7th – 9th grade students.

Workshops

July 9th – 13th

9:00am – 2:30pm daily (includes lunch)

The Art of Cosmetology: The twenty-first century holds promise and unlimited opportunities for future cosmetologists. In this week, we will talk about the many subjects that are involved in cosmetology; from salon business to hair cutting to the study of nails. You will learn how you can achieve your goals of being a stylist here at Stafford. We will have some basic hands-on fun and play some fun cosmetology games.

Police Investigation and Patrol: In this camp explore the skills needed to work in law enforcement. We will work with fingerprints, learn how to diagram a scene, process evidence to identify a suspect and maybe solve a crime!. We will use a variety of equipment and our very own dispatch center to locate and arrest a suspect during a motor vehicle stop.

Game Design: In this one week workshop you will make your own video games. Learn the basics of coding, modeling, texturing and design using industry standard software in the Digital Arts computer lab.

Party Foods: Spend a week preparing for a catered event with Stafford Chef Instructor Lisa Fennimore. You will learn to prepare a variety of seasonal and fun dishes including yeast breads, dips, pastry, pizza, and a wide variety of hors d’ouvres, all of which will be served to friends and family during the end of camp celebration on Friday. Campers will work in our professional kitchen and learn a wide range of techniques to make tasty treats. You will also venture off campus to visit the home of the most popular party food company in Vermont, the Ben and Jerry’s Factory. Campers will be expected to be active participants in food prep as well as clean up; closed toe shoes are a must.

Video Camp: Learn the basics of storytelling, take out a camera and bring it to life! The Video/Multimedia Summer Camp (or theme camp) exposes students to creating a story with a beginning, middle and end then shooting it and editing it with the latest industry-standard cameras and software. The camp will allow students to take the images and ideas in their minds and make high quality commercials, short fictional films, public service announcements and documentaries out of those ideas.

Digital Photography: Learn how to create amazing photographs! In this hands-on workshop, you will shoot, edit, manipulate and print your own photographs. Using digital cameras and Adobe Photoshop you’ll learn how to create photographs that look professional. At the end of the week, we will have an opening where you can share your work.

STEM Inside Out: Come for a full week of engaging experiences for all STEM-interested students! We will design within the Stafford STEM lab utilizing laser cutting technology, 3-D printing applications, and SparkFun inventor kits. Scientific exploration will continue outdoors with streamside research, botany adventures, and animal inquiry. STEM field trips will be taken in the Rutland area to see engineering in action. Bring your energy, enthusiasm, and desire to have fun while learning!
