Students in Stafford Technical Center’s Forestry& Natural Resources and Human Services Programs work with the Stafford pre-schoolers in the art of wreath making.  Each pre-schooler takes home their own handcrafted wreath.  This is an annual event which takes place in the Stafford Technical Center’s on campus greenhouse.

Planting Season

BulbPlantingStudents from Stafford Technical Center’s Forestry & Natural Resources and Human Services Programs recently participated in the annual fall bulb planting with the boys and girls in Stafford’s Pre-School Program.  This is one of the many examples of community service projects involving the participation of Stafford Tech students.

Forestry & Natural Resources Students Learn by Doing

IMG_0640Stafford Technical Center’s Forestry & Natural Resources Program have begun a landscaping project on the property adjacent to Central Vermont Public Service Corporation’s (CVPS) planned solar-array power station along Route 7, just north of Rutland. The students are involved in a number of work activities including felling and limbing the pine and spruce trees on the property. The removal of these trees will expose the panels to the greatest amount of sunlight possible, especially in the winter months. The trees will be chipped and the wood chips will be used on the public path adjoining the project. In addition, the students will be planting trees and shrubs to beautify the area and delineate the boundaries.

This exciting partnership between Stafford and CVPS allows students to integrate their forestry curriculum while learning valuable safety and workplace readiness skills in an employment setting.

Stafford begins Physical Plant Renovation Project

Stafford Technical Center is getting a makeover; sort of. In reality, we are in the early stages of a three year project to renovate our program space which will allow for more flexibility in our program areas.  The Regional Advisory Board approved funding for the first phase which will be underway this summer.

The project will commence with the repair and restoration of the Forestry/Power Mechanics Building on the east side of the campus. The goal is to upgrade the heating/ventilation, mechanical systems and energy retro-fits.  Over the next few years, renovations will expand to include the rehabilitation of the Electrical/Plumbing building, Automotive Technology and Automotive Refinishing Labs. Future relocation of several existing programs to different classroom spaces will eventually result in the launch of Stafford’s Cosmetology Program in the fall of 2011.

Stafford’s long term vision is to have quality, energy efficient classroom spaces that meet the educational needs of the 21st century workforce.

Spring Planting

The children from Stafford Technical Center’s Pre-School planted their own sunflower seeds with the help of students from Stafford’s Forestry, Natural Resources & Horticulture and Human Services programs.  Some of these Sunflowers will be sold in Stafford’s greenhouse.  This is an annual activity for the children.
