Stafford Technical Center is pleased to unveil a student-created bench made possible by a grant from Rutland South Rotary. Last spring Stafford was awarded a $750.00 grant for a student project. The funds were used to purchase the materials to build an “Adirondack style” bench by two students in the Power Mechanics and Welding program.
Dylan Brown and Hunter Given, both seniors at Stafford Technical Center from Fair Haven Union High School, worked on the bench through the first semester of school this year. Under the watchful eye of the instructors, Tony Bosnich and Jim Patry, the students measured, cut, sanded and welded the bench together from steel pieces.
Rotarian Roger W. Louiselle, contacted Melanson’s Co. to request help with powder coating the bench. Melanson’s Co has the largest powder coat booth set up in the state of VT. Melanson’s provided sandblasting, zinc coating, and powder coat finish to the bench, as well as the time and effort of three employees spending a day on the project. Currently, the bench is inside Stafford Technical Center until it can be placed in its permanent home outside the school.

FAQ

All FAQ pages should include Frequently Provided Answers!

  • Can I play a sport if I attend STC?

Yes, you can still participate in sports, or other extracurricular activities at your sending school. We have students who are in band, on teams, in drama club, art club, honor society, and many others.

  • What if I want to go to college?

We think that is great! At STC you may have the opportunity to earn college credits while still in high school. You can use dual enrollment, or articulation agreements to earn credits.

  • Do I just stay in one room all day?

No of course not. You will spend a great deal of time in your program area, whether that is culinary or welding.  You may also attend academics in some other classroom. At the very least we let you out of the classroom for lunch!!

  • Where do I graduate from?

Your diploma is issued by your sending school. We work with sending schools closely to make sure that you get all your credits for graduation.

  • What if I don’t know what I want to be?

We think that is okay. Some students come to us with a plan in mind. Others come to us to explore a career. It is much less expensive to try something here than to go away to a college only to find out that you prefer eating to cooking, or driving a car to repairing one.

  • May I drive to school?

We have limited parking spots available. We give preference to students with academic classes that require them to come early or stay late, and to students who are leaving to work at an internship.

  • What about my friends?

You will most likely make new friends, and your old friends are only a text away!

Welcome and Welcome Back!

Our new school year is off to a great start. Thank you to all the families who attended Open House.

SkillsUSA

All of us here at Stafford want to give a big thank you to John Bixby. John has been a faculty advisor for SkillsUSA for at least ten years.  Without his dedication and extra work, our students would not have had chances to compete at the state level, move on to the national level, and experience all kinds of wonderful learning opportunities.  We look forward to all the help and guidance our students will get from the new co-advisor Tony Bosnich.  Melissa Patterson continues to be an advisor for this club and we extend many thanks to her as well!

First Assembly

Our first assembly was held early last week to welcome and welcome back our students. We introduced staff with photos. Expectations were reviewed. President’s Volunteer Service Award winners were recognized as well.  We have hit the ground running!

NTHS Induction

On May 11, 2017 the newest members of the National Technical Center were inducted.  The ceremony includes a recogniton of each inductee by the program instructor, a candle lighting ceremony, a rose ceremony and a delicious buffet after.  The buffet was prepared by students in the Culinary Arts program.

We are very proud of our students.

Winter Carnival

Our Winter Carnival was a great success! Many students tried skiing or snowboarding for the very first time. Others were off and going the minute they got off the bus. Some students swam, or worked out, and even others chose to stay inside and visit, or work on a jigsaw puzzle. There was something for everyone.  A huge thank you from the Stafford community to Pico, and to Melissa Patterson who puts SO much work into this great day.
