On shop days, students have the opportunity to develop some skills that they’ll need on the job and as responsible homeowners. At the start of a project like mortising hinges, we sharpen our chisel and knives and get frustrated as we make mistakes repeatedly. After many failures comes repetitive success and finally real competence. The growth and measurable success is what learning feels like. Just ask any of the Construction Tech team! They’re all glowing with pride like they’ve summited a big mountain! Great job, team!
At the Kehoe camp, we are turning the space that turned away staff with its ugliness into something really gorgeous. Red oak shiplap that, with the help of Natural Resources & Forestry, we milled from the trees that once stood next to this cabin, trims the doors and windows, and is carefully being installed for walls and shelving. What a beautiful spot and opportunity to do some unique interior finish work for the community.
