The Engineering program embarked on two informative field trips recently. On November 29, the class visited VELCO and gained insight into the challenges faced by the power generation industry in generating and distributing electricity throughout the region. They also learned about VELCO’s 500 KW solar array and battery storage facility and the urgent need for large-scale, efficient energy storage as we transition to greater use of wind and solar power.
December 6th, the class visited Beta Technologies in Burlington to learn about how Beta is working to electrify the Alia, a vertical takeoff and landing electric aircraft. Many technologies were showcased including composite manufacturing, battery assembly, CNC machining, and the inter-relatedness of design, manufacturing, and production!
