Overview
All students must satisfy the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) classroom, practice yard, and over–the–road components of our curriculum in order to successfully complete the program and be approved to take the road and skills test with the Vermont DMV. Students who progress at a slower pace (more than 6 months – effective January 1, 2025) to complete this program and require additional over–the–road hours will be expected to compensate Rutland City Public Schools at a prorated hourly rate for this individualized instruction.

Application Process
- Submit a STC Course Registration Form to the Office of Adult and Continuing Education at Stafford Technical Center. Registration Form & VSAC Contact Information
- Submit a valid copy of your Medical Examiner’s Certificate. This form must be completed and signed by a licensed physician Medical Examiner’s Certificate for CDL
- Provide a valid automobile driver’s license to be copied by STC staff.
- A CDL Permit is encouraged but not necessary to be eligible to enroll in our program. However, a CDL Permit is required before you can get behind the wheel and start driver trainings.
- Make acceptable arrangements for payment of all CDL program costs prior to attending your first class.
Registration and Enrollment
Once an enrollment file is complete, the student has been accepted, and tuition payment arrangements are made, the Assistant Director for Adult Technical Education will establish an official date to begin your training program and you will be notified of your start date via an email from the Adult Education Secretary.
Description
The Stafford Driver Training School is operated through the Adult and Continuing Education program at Stafford Technical Center. Our certified licensed instructors provide students with the federally required knowledge and skill set to become a professional truck driver. When you complete the classroom and over-the-road state approved curriculum you have completed our course and will be ready to tackle the state-required CDL skills test to obtain your class A or B commercial driver’s license (Stafford Technical Center does not guarantee obtainment of your class A or B commercial driver’s license).
Note: The classroom, practice range and equipment are all located seven miles from Stafford Technical Center at the Casella Operations Center in West Rutland.
Please be advised that Stafford Technical Center does not guarantee employment after students complete this training program nor does it provide access to school-based career counseling or employment placement services. When appropriate, referrals are made by STC program staff to local employers and government agencies that can assist eligible candidates in developing a strategy for employment.
