Students in Public Safety Criminal Justice were quite surprised in class. The instructor had planned a non-violent disruption of class which had Taylor (Welding & Metal Fab) barging in and causing a commotion. Taylor was being loud and “stole” a fish from the classroom. The purpose was for the Public Safety students to recall what they saw and heard, the order in which things happened, and then create a composite drawing of the suspect. The students learned that memory can be shaky as you try to recall something that happened unexpectedly. The students thought the composite sketch was an accurate representation of the suspect. When Taylor returned to stand by the image the Public Safety students could see a difference. As these students explore careers in the public safety field this experience gives them a sense of empathy for how people may feel in times of stress and how memory can be tricky.
