Each year, participating Members of Congress sponsor a high school arts competition in their district to recognize and encourage young developing artists. This annual “Congressional Arts Competition” was first established in 1981 by Senator Jim Jeffords when he served in the House of Representatives. Since its inception, more than 650,000 students have participated from across the country, including hundreds of Vermont artists.
