Our 9 1st-year Natural Resources & Forestry students have completed Game of Logging Training 1 & 2 (out of 4) with Northeast Woodland after becoming competent sawyers with Mr. Stannard in September.
The first step to becoming an arborist, homesteader, disaster relief worker, wildlife habitat manager, farmer, wildfire fighter, trail worker, landscaper, logger, and so many other occupations is learning to start a chainsaw. Often generalized as dangerous and destructive, it is, with the right training and education, perhaps the most important tool we have to do good and hold up our end of the relationship we have with the natural world.
“We don’t have to wait for someone who’s in a white lab coat somewhere to come along and invent a miracle cure that’s going to solve all the problems that our ecosystems face… We just have to be willing to walk up to that tree and start up that chainsaw and cut it down, because we know that this is how we actually move this forest, this entire ecosystem, to a better place.”
