Description
This course is designed to introduce students to standard welding procedures and thermal cutting (OFC/PAC). Instruction will focus on developing hands-on proficiency in SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), using equipment and applications considered the standard across a variety of industries. Substantial hands-on practice with instructor supervision will enable students to develop proper technique in all positions with 6011 and 7018 pad and fillet welds in flat and horizontal positions with 7024. This class is an excellent prerequisite for the advanced course that will provide intensive instruction and practice, leading to additional opportunities to earn AWS certifications as a structural steel welder.
NOTE: Students are expected to wear leather shoes or boots, a long-sleeved shirt, safety glasses, a visor, gloves, and a jacket.
